Visiting of Sara Vanelli from University of Florence

We have the pleasure to welcome Sara Vanelli, from University of Florence. SAra will spend few months with us during her PHD.

Short Bio:
Sara Vannelli is a third-year Ph.D. student in Industrial Engineering at the University of Florence. She is 27 years old. She graduated with honors in Management Engineering with a thesis on introducing wearable devices in Parkinson’s disease detection and treatment services.

1. What is your area of research/expertise?
Sara’s research falls under Service Operations Management and Innovation, with a focus on Healthcare processes. She has gained multifaceted expertise by collaborating with international research groups and has been involved in various innovation activities. She has been one of the principal investigators in several research projects. Among them, the most relevant ones involved the development of an approach capable of designing high-value service processes enabled by new technologies, the development of a Decision Support System aimed at fostering the high-value adoption of new technologies, the testing of theoretical models through Structural Equation Modelling, the development of Operational Research models to optimize service processes, and the improvement of the efficiency of service facilities through managerial insights obtained from Data Envelopment Analysis.

2. What is your current research about and how can the results of this research make a difference in our society?
By supporting managers in making informed decisions about new technologies, Sara’s work has the potential to significantly improve the effectiveness of public and private spending, and ultimately, offer more value to stakeholders.

3. What are your expectations as a visiting PhD student at the Bauhaus for Transitions? 
As a visiting PhD student at the Bauhaus for Transitions, Sara is eager to broaden her research horizons on the methods that can effectively address the challenges of value-based innovation of service processes.
